Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is created from a curated selection of interchangeable articles of clothing. These articles of clothing are classic, timeless pieces, mostly in neutral colors, that never go out of style.
The concept of a capsule wardrobe became popular in 1985 when Donna Karan presented her “Seven Easy Pieces” fashion line. The idea of a minimalist and interchangeable wardrobe, which made getting dressed easier and faster, was appealing to women at the time. The line was a huge success and is currently having a resurgence along with“quiet luxury" and ”norm core.”
According to Donna Karan, and that iconic collection, the seven easy pieces are:
Black Bodysuit
Versatile dress or skirt
Pair of loose trousers
(Tailored) jacket
(Cashmere) sweater
White shirt
Little Black Dress
I believe there are three additional articles of clothing necessary to complete a capsule wardrobe:
Well fitting jeans
Sunglasses
Cross body bag
Capsule wardrobes make getting dressed easier. They reduce decision fatigue and save time. Additionally, a capsule wardrobe is sustainable. The limited wardrobe, filled with timeless investment pieces, are a great way to avoid the “fast fashion” industry and reduce waste.
