NYFW Fall 2025 RECAP
Fashion Week in NYC has come and gone, and while the runways were full of theatrical looks that no one’s going to wear to the grocery store (well, maybe in NYC) there were some trends worth paying attention to. This fall’s shows in New York City proved that rich textures, interesting silhouettes, and statement details can make getting dressed fun again.
1. LUXE LAYERS- NYC’S TAKE ON Fur
Designers love a little drama, and this season, that came in the form of plush, oversized fur coats. Whether real or faux, the look is all about being effortlessly cool, and cozy. Throw one on over jeans and a t-shirt to instantly update an outfit, or put it on over a dress to elevate a night out. Consider a cool shape or a bright color to maximize benefits of this NYFW trend.
2. Peplums Return: A NYC Fashion Week Highlight
Peplums are making a comeback. If you lived through the early 2010s, you might be having flashbacks to ultra-structured peplum tops that cut you off at the waist in an awkward way. This new take, however, is more relaxed, with softer tailoring and a less exaggerated shape. Try a peplum blazer or a cinched-waist dress to ease into the look without feeling like you’ve traveled back in time.
3. Fringe; NYC’s funnest Looks
Fringe was everywhere this season, adding just the right amount of movement to skirts, jackets, and accessories. Maybe it’s the Texan in me, but I love me some fringe! It’s fun, a little bit dramatic, and surprisingly easy to wear. If a full fringe look feels too bold, a bag or scarf with fringe detailing is an easy way to incorporate the trend without committing to the whole look.
4. Plaid Takes Center Stage: NYC's Boldest Take on a classic
Plaid isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but NYC designers gave it a fresh update this season. Oversized, bold-colored checks replaced the usual preppy plaids, making this a great trend to play with. If you’re not into head-to-toe plaid, try a statement blazer or a skirt to bring some pattern into your wardrobe.
5. Statement Evening Wear: NYC's Red Carpet Inspiration
If you’ve got any events on the calendar, this is the season to go big. From floor-length gowns with exaggerated silhouettes to rich, jewel-toned fabrics, eveningwear is leaning into full-on glamour. Even if you’re not dressing up for a gala anytime soon, incorporating a little bit of this drama—a bold sleeve, a metallic shoe, or even just an elegant dress—can make even a getting dressed feel fun.
FINAL THOUGHTS
New York Fashion Week offered up plenty of inspiration this season, but remember—trends are suggestions, not rules. True style is about wearing what makes you feel good! NYC brought the ideas—now it’s your turn to bring the style.
