Jacket Season (2024)
It’s jacket season! For much of the world, January and February are cold and miserable; a good jacket is imperative. When I lived in New York City, my jacket collection was extensive and varied. I always owned a “serious” coat (with a hood and pockets) for snowy/windy days, and an elegant coat for nights out. I owned many vintage jackets, and even dedicated an entire closet to my collection, (that’s prized real estate in NYC!)
Once I moved to LA I (sadly) let go of most of my coats, and, living in Texas, it’s not often that I need something heavier than a blazer. As I watch the East Coast get pounded with (another) winter storm, I imagine what coats I’d invest in and compiled a list of my favorites below.
The Puffer Coat
A winter essential, there are so many versions of the puffer coat. Always practical, the classics remain in style. The North Face always provides quality and warmth and if you’re looking for something more luxurious, this Moncler puffer is an excellent choice. I also love the color of this Canada Goose puffer; so many options!
A Pop of Red
Nothing brightens up a dreary winter day better then a vivid pop of color. Red was all over the Fall/Winter runways and these coats are proof of the trend.
The Robe Coat
Could it be we are still in pandemic mode? Athleisure and loungewear remain popular and what better way to stay cozy than wrapping up in a big robe (coat?)
Shearling
More Coziness to be had!
The Camel Coat
A camel coat is chic and classic. For the sake of this blog post, I’m calling it a trend, but a good camel coat will never be out of style.
Plaid
Choose subtle shades for plaid coats and this piece could be your new neutral. Throw over dresses and work clothes to add a fun element to any look.
Oversized Denim
This season denim is insulated with fuzzy linings. Sherpa and denim never looked cooler and an oversized workshirt is the perfect layering piece for extra cold days.
The Scarf Coat
The scarf coat, brought to us by Pheobe Philo, when she dropped her eponymous line last year, remains a statement this season. This dramatic Erdem coat is sure to keep you warm and this cushy car coat will look great dressed up or down.
