Phoebe Philo

Phoebe Philo recently unveiled her first solo collection. Available to purchase online only, the collection sold out immediately.

Phoebe Philo studied fashion at Central Saint Martens College of Art and Design in London. Upon graduating in 1996, she joined Chloe as Stella McCartney’s first assistant and in 2001 became creative director. During her time at the label, she ushered in an era of babydoll dresses matched with heavy accessories. Her handbags, like the Paddington, became cult classics and are still highly covetable to this day.

After six years with Chloe, Philo moved to Celine where she rejuvinated the brand. Her clothing spoke to women by ushering in a sense of comfort that prioritized character and ease. She paired wide leg trousers with sneakers (she was the first to put Stan Smiths and Birkenstocks on the runways) and introduced the camel coat as a wardrobe staple.

Phoebe worked at Celine for 10 years and designed 17 runway collections; the final one was in 2017.

She has been silent ever since.

Never one to like interviews and press releases, in July 2021, Phoebe Philo announced, on Instagram, that a new collection was coming. Excitement was palpaable within the industry; anticipation and expectations high.

In October, 2023, the collection finally debuted online, without a fashion show. Featuring 150 styles, the clothing is, tailored, edgy and expensive. Phoebe says she sees her designs as a seasonless and continuous body of work. Future collections will be released according to her own schedule, rather than the standardized fashion calendar. The collection will be made as sustainable as possible, with a focus on quantities calibrated to eliminate overproduction.

Was it worth the wait?
