Alexander McQueen
Alexander Mcqueen
was a young designer meant to be seen.
Born in London, to a family of six
he dropped out of school to pursue his fashion fix.
Working as a tailor on Savile Row
he sewed suits for Princes and those in the know.
After a while he went back to school
at Central St. Martins which really was cool.
His final school project, a killer fashion and runway show
was bought up by a Stylist named Isabella Blow.
He started his own label and designed some pants
They hung so low and received countless rants.
Those pants, they really accelerated his career
and next thing you know he won (British) designer of the year.
The house of Givenchy hired him to design
but he never felt comfortable working for that line.
In the year 2000 his private line was sold
allowing the designer to be even more bold.
His fashion shows were spectacles, there were 36 in all
every single one of them is something to recall.
His label, it grew,
perfume, sunglasses and clothes for men too.
McQ was made
his name would never fade.
The British government made him Commander of the Order
and all of his clothes were on preorder.
In 2007, a very good friend, she died
And “Lee” McQueen all he could do was cry.
His love for her was seen in his next show
He dedicated it to her, Isabella Blow.
But Alexander Mcqueen he couldn’t get over the pain
and his life, he no longer wanted to maintain.
After he died there was a retrospective at the Met
it was the biggest ever; tickets were hard to get.
But the show must go on, as they say
and Sarah Burton, a former intern, seized the day.
She designed a dress for THE Princess bride
a stunning moment filled with pride.
For 26 years she carried on his name
making sure the designs were empowering and not too tame.
Sarah just announced it’s time for her to quit
and an Irish man will have a go at it.
May his artistry flow
and his creative visions grow
And with every stitch and seam, may he honor his name.
Continuing his legacy, stoking the flame.
